Artist Statement
I have worked with porcelain for several years now. I am drawn to the seductive qualities of the smooth creamy texture of the clay. I create soft, curvaceous forms on the potter’s wheel or by hand. The silhouette of these forms is accentuated through surface decoration and soothing colored glazes.

Intuition and spontaneity guide the processes that I incorporate into my work. I utilize the meditative nature of repetitive creative processes to develop patterning within pieces which call for close interaction in order for subtleties to be discovered. These processes are somewhat tedious, because in many instances I roll individual beads of porcelain to create the pearl-like rims on bowls or vases. In some pieces, entire surfaces are covered with repetitive patterning. These processes are cathartic and gratifying in the sense that they fulfill my desire for tactile experiences.

Life can be very fast paced. Handmade objects that can be used and also adorn the home provides a connection from the maker to the user. I hope that my work will provide people with the opportunity to slow down and carefully examine details.
